All applicants have to meet the following minimum educationalo requirments in order to become one of our members:
Completed 2200 Hours in Herbal Medicine Training:
Education may consists of a combination of classroom, distance education and/or other course training hours, which should includes:
- At least 1000 hours in core herbal subjects such as materia medica, herbal therapeutics, herbal pharmacology, herbal pharmacy, history and philosophy of herbalism, herbal energetic, and field identification.
- At least 300 hours in the sciences including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, and nutrition.
- At least 300 hours of supervised practical training in clients/patients consultations, assessment, treatment plan and herbal formulation development, herbal dispensing, clinical record keeping.
Applicants must submit documentary evidence to support all training hours.Specific programs may be approved which do not necessarily meet all of the hourly requirements.
These are reviewed individually, and are approved based on the quality of the training provided.Applicants may be asked to take a written or oral examination as part of their application assessment.
For Herbalists Without School Education Should Submit:
Submit all or part of the following as evidence of your own practice as a clinical herbalist, for the association’s assessment of eligibility for membership:
- Poof of apprenticeship training, such as a documentary proof of mentorship;
- Poof of completion of any training and supervised practical hours with a qualified medical herbalist;
- Poof of the medical herbalist practice and hours (advertising, business registration, etc.)
- One reference letter from a professional clincial herbalist, and three clients/patients references to prove the applicant’s qualifications.
The applicant may be asked to demonstrate their ability to practice safely by taking a written, oral examination. or a peer assessment.
Our association reserves the right to request a peer assessment for any applicant, regardless of documentation.These standards are subject to ongoing review by the Association’s Professional Members Committee.
